ASSOCIATION
MARIST V. INSTITUTE
I'lio grounds at Association Park on Saturday were in exceptionally good order—a fact that speaks volumes tor tho hard-working committee. A pleasing feature was tho ]ar«e attendance of the public and old players, and what is more the executive committee of the Wellinfiton Football Association are well pleased with tiho. manner in which tho ehaves lor the retention of Association Park are going off.
ilarist kicked off with tho wind in their favour, and play was at once removed to Institute's goal area, but just when Marists' forwards were in a dangerous position they were sent to the rightaltout by M'Lean (Institute's centrehalf). Institute's forwards swept the ball right down to Marißt's goal,. but a goal-kick was their only reward. Back came Marat, and A. Lowe (Marist's leftwinger) sent in a shot which Hyder (Institute's goal-keeper) saved nicely. Warming up to their work, Marist's vanguard bombarded Institute's goal repeatedly, lino efforts being.made by Bidgood, Marshall, and A. Lowe, but Hyder, who was well assisted by. Bell, kept, them out. Institute's vanguard at this stage got a nice opening from Bell, and with nice short passes took the ball right down to within striking distance, but were nic».lv beaten for the ball by Auld, who sent on to Marshall (Mwist's centre-forward), who put in a lovely shot, which hit the upright. Institute at onco removed play tp niidfiold, where Guise (Institute's right-winger) headed a nice rush, which was well broken up by Carruthers. Marist returned to the attack, and from a scram Wo in goal Bidgood drew first blood for Mnrist. Ilarist 1, Institute 0. With play in Institute's territory, the whistl'o sounded for half-time.
On resuming; Jlarjst again took the initiative, and quickly had Institute 'on tho defensive, but Bell (Institute's fullback) sent them to the righlabout with' n. fine kick, which found tho line well down tho field. From the throw-in, Guise further improved the position by dribbling \ the ball well into Marist's territory, then Bonding to Strickland', who shot wide. Another characteristic bit of combined play on the part of Marist took the ball right up to Institute's goal-mouth, where a corner wa,s conceded. Cashmnn placed the ball fairly in the goal-mouth, where Marshall headed through. Marist 3, Institute 0.
