GERMAN BAPTISTS
BELIEF IN BRITISH GUILT AND : KAISER'S INNOCENCE. An interchange of yiows between British and German Bantists (by way of messages to the Baptist's of Sweden) has pro- • duced tho following statement, from the German Baptists quoted by the "Baptist \ Times": : "After anxious searching to the best of our instinct and with a good con- ■ science, we, like the rest of our people, nre entirely on the side of. our Government. lii spite of all our enemies i assert to the contrary, wo are firmly. ■ convinced that our Government in all sincerity tried to prevent the outbreak of war and to restore peace. We , abso- : lutely reject the repealed assertion than ( an ambitious Government party has carried on a warlike policy in any vay op- - posed to the will .of the people. The his- ; tnry of the Inst -.forty years has fully . proved that Germany and our beloved j Kaiser liavo used their power and their i will for the peace of the world. ; "The. prnciples of our English breth- j ren arc also ours.. But just because we i wi-ii to interpret these principles honwr. ; ly, without either twisting them or turning them upside down, we arc convinced] ' of the righteousnessof the German cause : in this war." They assert further that there (Ml ne longer be any doubt that England is to • blame for the war, and they endeavour , to bolster up this position with such .. quotations and allegations as, make the • composition of the long reply »ii-oh the British Baptists havo sent to .-;::.-. :i an easy matter. .
