CATHOLIC FEDERATION

MEETING OF THE DIOCESAN COUNCIL. The annual meeting of the Wellington Diocesan Council of the Now Zealand Catholic Federation opened yesterday morning at St. Anne's; Hull, Newtown. The proceedings commenced with Mass at the parish church, celebrated by the Ven. Archdeacon Devoy, S.M., and -was followed by an eloquent address by t]je Very Rev. Dean Power, S.M., of Haweia, on "The Catholic Ideal in Education." The council reassembled in the hall, the Rev. Fatlur Hurley, S.M. (president) being in the chair. The Ven. Archdeacon Devoy extended a hearty welcomti to the council and his best wishes for a useful meeting. The president expressed the pleasure of the council at the presence of Archbishops Redwood and O'Shea, and of Monsignor M'lCenna, and such a representative attendance.

Archbishop O'Shea delivered a stirring address on "Some of the Social Duties of Catholics," the greater part of which is published elsewhere.

A hearty voto of thanks was accorded His Grace for the address.

Archbishop Redwood addressed tho council on "The Catholic F/videnco League." a newly-formed body of laymen in London.
