A statement that there is a shortage of 1,000,000 to 1,500,000 bushels of wheat this year was niado by Mr. John Talbot, at a meeting of the Farmers' Union at Tima.ru. 110 said lie understood that tho Government had bought 1,000,000 bushels in Australia, but it would bo difficult to got it over to New Zealand. Tho position would probably bo worse next year, as tho area sown and to bo sown was from 30 lo 40 per cent, less than formerly. Other members condemned tho purchasing of wheat, by the Government in Australia at a higher cost ' than that paid to Now Kcnlanricrs, especially as Australian labour had not i boon conscripted..
