1 INTERESTING COMPETITIONS AT 7 IfAKTON. Tho. annual .ploughing match, under the auspices of the Marion Branch of the N.Z. Farmers' Union, was held on i Mr. A.'Poppa's farm at Murton, ou ■Weilriesday. • i This annual fathering •is very : popular with tho Bangitikei {armors, t/lio • till tho agricultural latuls on more scieu- . tiiio ■ lines oompared with somo other parts of tha Coast. There was a Tecord . attendance, and record entries. Tho soil proved rather light for fine work, i but the ground had the'.advantage of boirip ablo to accommodate the largo ! lumber of 27 competitors and their teams, l'he ploughing was of a generally high,, standard, and it took tho eyo of a farmi ing expert to discriminate between 'the ... . Owing to tho record number of> entries the judges, Messrs. - J. C. Baird ! r.nd G. M'Kay, of Hastings, and Mr. J. Grant, of Hawera, had a big area of ploughed land to and darkness eefc in before their work was completed. The following awards !were made :— "Class. A—Double furrow: F. King, 1; A. Coleman, 2; K.'Bnrgess, 3; J..Daily, i; B. Irfingham, 5.'
