PRACTICAL AID
FOR SOLDIER SETTLERS. Farmers in one district of Southland liave been giving most practical aid to n parly of returned .soldiers who have settled'in their district. The Minister in charge of the affairs of returned soldiers alio Hon. D. H. Guthrie) has just received tho following telegram from Sir. G. .T. Anderson, M.P. for the district:— "Have just returned from the Stalker Soldiers' Settlement on Udeudalo Plains. -The neighbouring farmers held it ploughing bee for the soldier settlers, with the result that (10 teams wero ;it work and the whole of the new farms worn ploughed. Later the neighbours will disc and cultivate and sow tho land for the soldiers. This is a practical demonstration of help which deserves encouragement." Mr. Guthrie has sent: the following telegram to Mr. .T. Dunlop, chairman of the Fanners' .Union: "T have just received advice through Mr. G. .7. Anderson, if.P., as to the splendid work dono by members of the Farmers' Union and settlers in assisting soldier settlers on iho Stalker Settlement, and on"behalf of tho Government would be glad if you would accept and convey to tho other settlers concerned my sincere thanks for the excellent voluntary assistance which has been given. It is very pleasing to the Government to find settlers individually nnd collectively so willing to assist in ensuring a, good start: to those of our soldiers going on the land."
