A semi-official reply to Dr. Welcerle's speech declares that the latter constitutes an official admission of the immense gravity of the Austrian disaster. Dr. Wekerlo tries to soothe public opinion by doubling tho Italian and halving the Austrian losses. Dr Wekciic assorted that only seventy regiments, otherwise two hundred thousand men, participated in the battle, and therefore' tho AustroHungarian losses, on his showing, were 50 per cent. But Austrian prisoners agreed in stating that l'orty-two divisions, otherwiso four hundred and sixty thousand men were encaged; therefore, Dr. Wckcrlo's proportions when corrected show thai, tho Austro-lluugarian losses wore two hundred thousand. Moreover, they took nine thousand, not twelvo thousand prisoners.—Rc-uter.
