TWO IMPORTANT SUCCESSES
HEAVY AUSTRIAN LOSSES THE AWAKENING IN RUSSIA MANIFESTO BY THE GRAND DUKE MICHAEL There is still no sign of the German offensive in local attacks, air raids, and artillery activity being tho main features of the dispatches. In Italy, the Austrians have received another sharp leverso in the loss of two mountain positions, which were carried by tho Italians after bitter fighting, in which the enemy sustained most damaging losses. Altogether, the situation on the Italian front is regarded as satisfactory, far more so than is tho internal situation in Austria and Hungary, where trouble is being piled upon trouble. In Russia tho reawakening of the people's spirit is becoming more manifest with the successful advance of the Czecho-Slovaks. The Grand Duko Michael has issued a manifesto to tho effect that the time has come for the; rehabilitation of tho country as a nation. The German sea assassins have swelled their frightful crimes sheet with another attack, on a Canadian hospital ship. Nearly everybody got away.
