CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. ■The committee of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce met yesterday. Mr. J. Cx. Harkness, president, was in the chair, and there were also present: Messrs. J. M'Jjellnn. F. IV. Manton, T. Ballinger, J. F. Mills, T. C. Dawson, M. Mainland, J. M. Deck, W. J. Britlson, ~F. Rasey, F. J. Evans, and M. A. Cart'. The delegates to the recent conference at Palmerston North regarding hydroelectric power presented their report. They stated the decision of the conference in some detail. A letter was read from an importer stating that a steamer which arrived recently from San Francisco hnd been partially unloaded at Wellington and then sont to Westport to coal. This prevented merchants from getting their goods promptly and also imperilled insurances. The committee decided to make inquiries from the Union Steam Ship Company on the subject.
