SUPPLIES OF SUGAR
V A NEW AGREEMENT. The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, Acting President of the Board of Trade, announced on Saturday that a new agreement Md been concluded with tho Colonial Sugar Eefining Company for the supply of sugar to New Zealand merchants at the rale of ,£22 103. per ton. The new agreement will como into oper- ■ ation as from to-day. Under tho agreement, expired the price of sugar to merchants was «£22 per tbn. .Even at the increased price sugar will bo cheaper in New Zealand than in nny other country in the world. It was estimated that under the old arrangement the saving to the people of New Zealand was not less than .£100,00(1, by comparison with the prices at which 6Ugar is sold in Australia, and even in Australia sugar is cheap, as prices go for 6ugar in the world to-day.
