Two of tho Northern Company's vessels, tho Clansman and tho Wiuotahi, were dispatched to the scene as soon as tho news of the disaster was received, mill are still searching for survival's. The. Clansman lef; Wluuigaroa at 6.15 this morning, and should roach tho scene at i i<m. The Waiotnhi was dispahued from ITouhora at 1 p.m., and should reach the locality at three. Four boats haw landed. At the instance of the Deputy-Mayor, the secretary of the Parcnga Gumfields Company (Mr. 11. Gilfillan) Hired to the manager at Parens, rtii nesting him to supply provisions, and d) itil possible for the survivors.
Tho following particulars of the officers are available here:— Captain .11. J. Kelts, master of tlio Wimroera, has been on tlio New ZealandAustralia run for a long time. His wife and two children reside at Auckland. Mr. A. Nicliol, chief officer, recently joined the Winnnera. having been previously aboard the Zealandia on Ihc West Australian run. He is married, his wife residing in Sydney. Mr. C. Wilson, second officer, joined the vessel on the previous trip, replacing Mr. Thurston. Mr. A. Paxton;, chief engineer, was making his first trip, having relieved Mr. Morris, who had been chief for Bomo time. Mr. Kenneth Gome, purser, isnn A neklander, with several relations residing in the city. Mr. M. Hawksivood, assistant purser, is also an Aucklander. Mr. D. Mowntt, fourth engineer, is a native of Wellington. As the Wimmera is an Australian ship, most' of the crew are unknown here. Martin, ordinary seaman, is also an Aucklander. Valuable Racehorses Lost. Five thoroughbred horses were shipped by tlio Winnnera. and its there was no insurance on them their loss is a severe one. Messrs. W. and V. Casey sent Informal and Demotic; Mr. H. Cotter shipped Hymeona, Lady Jack, and Deep Sleep. Informal was the leading Auckland two-year-old last season, and his three-year-old career was full cf promise. Hymeona was recently • purchased bv Mr. Cotter for 1000 guineas, and Lady Jack for, it is stated, 275 guineas.
