Mental Hospital Attendants. The Inspector of Mental Hospitals annealed toiv the following officers:—John Porter, attendant, Seaclilf; James Moore, attendant, Seaclilf; Ldmuiid Henry Kcrrell, attendant, Seacliff; Alexander Cuthill, attendant, Seaclilf; .Leonard Jiebbord, attendant, Seaclilf; i'rederick Johnson, attendant, Seaclilf; Joseph Walters, butcher, Seacliff; Robert S. Anderson, attendant, Seaclilf; Percy S. Stewart, attendant, Porirua; Frederick Crowder, plumber, Christchurch; Andrew John Porter, attendant, Christchurch; John Edward Ward, attendant, Christchurch; Peter Balfour, pioughman, ICihikihi; Murdoch M'Leorl, attendant, Kihjkihi; James Sathcrley, attendant, Nelson; Clifford E. Matthews, attendant, Seaeliff. In every case the board reserved its decision sine die. His Letters Censored. An appeal fur Leslie M. Schroder, accountant, Sealouu, was dismissed, and reave was given till October !). Counsel mentioned that though Schroders had been British subjects it»' seven generations, this member of the fawny nad hud bis correspondence censored,' and had been subjected to great annoyance, which hud worried him and caused injury to the health of his wife. A Curious Mistake. Three months' leave of absence from camp was sought by Arthur Allen, travoile.. iulbirnie. It was stated that the Defence Department had notified Allen that he had Ik-en classed C 2, 'whereupon Allen hadundertaken financial obligations which be would not otherwise have contracted. Later, however, the Department told hiiu Unit the C 2 nolilicatkm was erroneous, dud that he was required to' go into camp. This he was willing to do, but he now desired time to arrange, affairs. Leave till September 11 was grunted.
• To Camp or Home Service. When the case of Walter C. Johnston, manager, was called the reservist did not appear. Captain Beale, the military representative, thereupon made a statement to the effect that Johnston had given the military much trouble in not appearing for attestation when requested to do so. He had been notified a second time, but had not obeyed. Therefore he (Captain Jleale) asked the board in the event of Johnston being "turned down" to order him into camp for compulsory homo service. Johnston was a man occupying a good position, and he ought to have set a better example than he did. The chairman: He ought to Tie glad to defend what he has got. appeal was dismissed, and the board'aartod: "If found to be medically unfit appellant to be ordered into camp forthwkii for home service."
Good Family Records. The State Fire Insurance Department nppealed for Harold C. Rogers, munager of the Christchurch office. It was mentioned that Sogers was one of five brothers, and that the other four were at the front. The chairman: That is a fine familyrecord. The appeal wis adjourned wno die. D. D. G. Lynch, farmer, Parnparaumu, was appealed for by his father. The case was adjourned till September. Tho chairman of the board remarked that the family's war record was good. Walter B. Hoare, who tail, three brothers at the ti'ront and one returned, was appealed for by his mother. Tho board reserved decision. Farmers' Appeals. An appeal for 11. Hills, farmer, Kaitoke, was dismissed, and leave till September 11 was given. An appeal for John F. Harper, working farm manager, Pahiatua, was adjourned for further inquiries, it was stated that it was almost impossible to secure efficient working farm managers. An adjournment till September was made iu the case of P. W. Taylor, dairy f_armer, Pahautanui. It was stated that ne was the last man on the farm.
Other Cases, Herbert C. Cambridge, mechanical engineer in the Pneumatic Tube Co., was appealed fur by his employers, and leave til! September 11 was given. Kobert H. Hustler, printer, Johnsonville, was given leave till September 25. Harry E. Davis, for whom the National Mortgage and Agency Co., Ltd., appealed, was granted indefinite leave. The case of Mervyu C. Tansey, university student, was adjourned till August. An Appeal for AVilliam James Box, storeman, Khandalkih, was dismissed, and leave (ill September II was granted. John Cunninghame and Reginald Dudley, litters," were appealed for by Mr. William Cable. The cases were adjourned sine die. William Bno, foreman clicker and pattern-cutter at K. Hannah and Co.'s booc factory, was granted leave sine die. It ic hard V. Abbott, watchmaker, Brooklyn, was appealed for by his employer, a woman whose husband is at the' front. 'The case wna adjourned sine die. Dhedia Bhnga, a Hindu labourer, was declared to be not a reservist. Leave till September was allowed to W. D. Rynlls, barman. Wellington, who sought exemption on the ground I hat he had incurred financial obligations in a Nelson fruit farm. The buar,d will sit to-day at 10 a.m.
