TAKING A GERMAN RAIDER. Washington, .Tune 23. The Navy Department has announced that the steamer Schurz, which, before the United States seized it, was the German raider Gaier, was sunk in a collision with the steamer Florida off Cape Lookout. The crtw was picked up, with ono casualty.—Aus.-N.Z, Cablo Assn. (Rec. Juno 25, 0.5 a.m.) New York, June 23. Further details of the sinking of the licior show, that the tank steamer Florida cut a hUoO hole,in the Geier, which 6ank quicKly. Meanwhile oSicers and men, numbering two hundred and fifty, were rescued. Scores jumped into the sea when the collision occurred, and several ,vere injuied. The collision occurred at dawn, in clear weather. The cause is not known. The crew arrived to-day. Tluy relate sensational incidents of the rescue. The tank steamer was not injured.—Aus.-N.Z.
