SWIMMING

BOYS , INSTITUTE CLUB FORMED. On Friday evening a meeting was held at the Boys' Institute for the purpose of forming a Swimming and Life-saving Club among the institute members. In spite of the inclement weather a fair number was present. Mr. T. Ronayne was elected to the chair. Sir. Faniall outlined. the objects of the gathering, pointing out that owing to the war, and for other reasons, those enthusiasts who had done such good work in the past considered it desirable to form the club in order to allow the promulgation of the art to continue. It was resolved that the- club be formed, and a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. Somerville, Collier, and Farnall, was set up to frame rules and by-laws for the government of the club. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. G. A. Troup; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. T. Bonayne, J; P. Maxwell, A. A. Somervillo, A. M. I'amall, AV. C. Collier, W. H. Coy, F. Ross, Penreou Barry, AV. P. Somerville; captain, F. Tarrant; vicn-captain, AV. Thomas; hou. secretary, Mr. AV. Ci. Ashbridge; lion, treasurer, Captain Cook; lion, auditor, Mr. AV. G. Morpelh; haudicappers and starters, Messrs. Somervillo and Famuli j timekeeper, Mr. Banks; committee, H. Anderson, N. Bing, P. Rtisterholz, B. J'icrcey, F. Pallatto; advisory board, Messrs. Farnall, Collier, Somervillo, and JJiwl. At Hie close of tho meeting the charman (Mr. Eonayne) donated £,% 2s. to the club, and mentioned that other donatons already promised were a perpetual challenge cup, a gold medal, valued at ,C 2 25., and three donations of £1 Is. each. He hoped that many other donations would come along from other persons interested in the promotion of tho art of swimming among the young folk.
