ORGANISING THE CAMPAIGN TRUSTEES APPOINTED The ' movement to raieo money foV French K-ed Cross and other needy French relief fluids was advanced- another step on Saturday .morning, when a meeting of the general'committee, appointed at the preliminary meeting, was held in the Mayor's room to place the new appeal on the legal footing which the law demands. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided, and in opening tho meeting .expressed gratification that the Minister had given the necessary permit to collect, for the objects proposed. The first duty of the meeting was to givo the fund an' official designation, it was decided that it shall be known as "New Zealand's" Tribute to France." The Mayor was appointed chairman of the executive committee; the Mayor, Messrs. J. P. Maxwell, and Captain W. M. de B. Barclay, trustees; Messrs. Watkins, Hull, Hunt, and Wheeler were appointed lion, treasurers; and Captain Barclay was appointed organiser. The secretary has yet to be appointed. The Mayor is to communicate with the Mayors of tho other chief cities in New Zealand, informing them of what is being done here, and asking them to take- active steps on the same lines in their towns in order that "New Zealand's Tribute to France" may bo a creditable one. The "big push" for Franco will culminate on July 13 and 15, Sunday, July M, being France's national fete day, when the churches are to be asked to acknowledge the valour and self-sacrifice of the French people in this war. The committee is calling a* public meeting of sympathisers to be held in the Town Hrill ou Wednesday next. Any subscriptions to "New Zealand's Tribute to France?' forwarded to The Dominion Office, will, bo acknowledged and forwarded in due course to the treasurers.
