HAWKE'S BAY A. AND P. SOCIETY
The annual report of the Hnwke's Bay A. and P. Societv states that the financiav membership for the past year was 1438. the highest yet roaolu'd, as ugainst 1381 for the previous year. This is considered highly satisfactory in view of the increased number of members at the wnr, whose names are retained on the register as lion, members. During the year a listi was compiled giving the names of farmers in the district who were not members of the society, and copies issued to the committee which resulted in a number of new members being proposed, the majority of which, were secured by Mr. J. It. t.uuauze. who ha 3 again earned the hearty I hanks of all supporters of the society, as it is fnllv realised that it is most important that the membership should be kept up in order to meet the losses incurred in connection with the shows.
The committee regret to record the deaths of the Hon. .T. D. Ormond and Mr. C. A. Fitzrov. both past presidents of the society, and Mr. G. ?. Donnelly, a member of committee. The deceased gentlemen were strong supporters of the societv.-and in tho early days took a verv active part in the management of its affairs. The late Mr. Ormond's stud draught horses and sheep have been for a great many years among the leading features of the show, and the breaking up of this stud will be a serious loss to the society.
During the year further members of the society have enlisted in the forces of the Dominion. Tho committee regret they have to record the death, in action, of Lieutenant, H. N T . Coleman, who resigned from Hie committee last year in order to enlist. A number of other members of the society and sons of membars have also « ven their lives for their country, and sympathy is extended to the relatives of those who hove fallen. In spite of the 'pring and autumn shows having been run at a loss of ,£231 and £2)0 reMieittivoly, the accounts show a profit of .£!)!if> ss. for the year.,
