SEVERE PENALTIES FOR THOSE WHO PAIL TO REGISTER. Tho Canadian Government has now issued tho following regulations respecting the national registration, which is to be made on a date in June to be fixed subsequently by proclamation :— (1) All persons resident in Canada, whether male or fomale, British subjects or aliens, of 16 years of age or over, will bo required to register. • (2) Any person who fails to register will be punished by a fine or imprisonment, or both, by forfeiture of the right to vote at the Dominion elections, of the right to secure or hold any position or employment, or to earn wages, to retain the services of employees, to hold puhlio office, to travel by rail or boat, to secure accommodation or entertainment at an hotel or restaurant. All persons giving a defaulter employment, selling him a railway or steamboat ticket, or supplying him with board and lodging, will be liable to a fine or imprisonment, op both. The Government's scheme of national registration is intended to provide information respecting the labour resources of Canada, and although conscription of labour is not contemplated, the Registration Board will be empowered to name the industries in which men of certain ages must not be employed.
