The present season is faet drawing to a close, there being only five more meetings (including; to-day's Napier Park lixture) lieforo the 1918-19 season commences. Tho name or Affectation has been chosen for tho yearling colt by Kilbroney from Simper, and Itose Wreath for the yearHug illly by Kilbroney from Christmas Hose in J. T. Jamieson's Opalri stables. Since tho Ottiki Meeting Lady General has been on tho easy list at Opalu. Mr. G. L. Stead haß leased from Mr. J. J). Keid n- two-year-old chestnut filly by Sunny Lake from Sliowano. The youngster is a Hnlf-sistci- to the fiouth Island-owned Kilbrogan. The light-weight jockey T. Metcalfe, who has been connected with tho ll ; ghden stables for some years, has accented a position in Mr. A. J. Toxward's establishment. At Hastings, filcight-of-Hand and Nitn, arc said to be Riving good exhibitions of lepping over the steeplechase fences. Tho Wairoiapa-owucd pair, Gladful aid Wishful, are said to be jumping the small I'cnceß wolj. ■.Should the Invercargill trainer V. Hogan bring his team here for the forthcoming lixtjurc it may include the Ihig-lish-hred Fleolham, who is eligible lor the Trial Plate. The Auckland horseman S. Henderson has been granted a passport, and will leave for Sydney shortly to r'do Gluepot and John Bunny in their engagements over there. Gluepot has been awarded list. 21b. in the Grand National, lo be run at Flemington. ■ Marc Anthony is at present being hockod on the roads at Jticcarton, and is to be put into work again shortly. It is reported that the Varco horse is quite sound at present. As the name Ladylove was not allowed for the yenrlinpr filly by . Sauciuhar— Nantes, Mr. 0. Dalgcty has now claimed Nanlvillc for her, and the filly by Nns-sau-Stardancer has been called Rlarland. The gelding by Martian—Disdain ban been named Rebuff, whilst tho Nassau-Prim gelding will be known aB Pr'mum. Wanklyn, secretary of the Canterbury Jockey Club, who has been in poor health for somo time, has left for Canada on a health-recruiting trip. A parade of juveniles was held nt Kllerslic on Saturday last in connection with a patriotic carnival held there. A bay colt by Pistol from Bridge of Hoses was awarded tho first prize as the best yearling in the parade. Australian-bred yearlings were well represented, tho winner having been foaled across the Tasinau. Altogether thirteen juveniles were paraded, and the judging was carried out by Messrs. It. H. Dudcr and E. J. Kac. Tho climatic conditions for the Napier Park Meeting to-day do not look favourable, but up till yesterday no rain had fallen and the tracks at Greenmcadows were in need of a good soaking. i

Of the sixteen acceptors for the Moteo Hack Hurdles Golden Glade and Pjorneborg arc unlikely starters. Wishful and Soadown have both schooled well since arriving at Napier, the former particularly so. for he finished on the outßide ol Art in a once-round spin, and was as good as the National winner, while his stable companion Gladful was beaten off. On tho other hand Wishful and Scadown are both beginners and they may do better with a bit of racing. Dingle had two races at Wanganui. but ran badly. Otara is unreliable, and is to have a change of ownership* after the meeting. Amongst tho others iB Oastalin, who ran well enough in open company at Gisljorne to suggest her sb a possibility in the hack class.

Of the Hack Steeples field Expedition is sore and Bollin has bceu up no time. Torchy was a hat order in a strong field at Wanganui when he camo down over another horse, and tho public will no doubt look for him to-day

There is a, very big field in the Stewards Stakes, ono mile, and as far an is kuown' Orjeans is the only non-ntartcr. The raco appoars to bo very own and one of the light-weights may win. Bagdad ran well enough for a mile in tho liaukawa Cup to noint to him in this event, itazama has been working well at Hastings and he will have a large following to-day. In tho Napier Stcoplochasc Brael.urn will attempt to' win for the third Mine in succession. He has a big weight, but tho old fellow seemß to have taken a now lease of life, and his trainer savs he is galloping better than ever on the flat. Master Timi will be scratched, but Collector is io take his place in the field, and after his big effort in the Great Northern Steeples he is sure to rival Braeburn for tho honours to-day. They are not a good lot m the Ladies' Necklace and most of them will be troubled to Ret the distance. Alnatoro ran a. good trial over a mile on Tuesday, and he and Lord Nelson may bo favourites. The field in tho Open Hurdles will b« weak, as PursefUlor, Art, Kauri King, and Almo are all unlikely starters. Golden Olada, wis shapes will under a light weight, may carry most support. As in previous years there is a very bic fiqld in the Settlers' Hack Handicap, six furlongs. Ibex, who looks as if he has been kept busy since his new trainer took him over, may bo the favourite.
