SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE

MEETING OP ■THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE. The weekly mooting of the National Executive of the Second Division League was held last evening, 'lie following communication was received Irom the Minister of Defence:-, "Wellington, June la, 1918. ALLEN, Minister of Defence." i The secretary was instructed to write, tb the Minister as follows:- 1 am directed by my executive to thank you for your acknowledgment ot our letter of 13lli instant, and to respectfully asfc you -when we may expect a. reply. Copies of the correspondence between your honourable self and the.league have beer, forwarded to the various leagues throughout the Dominion, and they will bo anxiously awaiting your replies on the several points relating to financial assistance, the Government's policy residing the provision of adequate living condition!; for the wives ot soldiers Mio are mothers; 'and the differences between the policy of the Financial Assistance Board-as borne out in practice-as laid down in your several letters to the league, and as stated by Mr. Ronaldsou before the Defence Expenditure Gonimis- " It' was decided to send the full correspondence that has recently passed between the league and the Minister of Defence to each member of Parliament. Letters were received from various branches, endorsing tho action .ot the National Executive, in withdrawing from representation on the financial Assistance Board. ' , ~ It was decided to print a fourth edition of the "Handbook for Reservists, which the'lwrue posts free to each reservist called in the ballots. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. D. F. Skinner, E, G. lieid, H. F. Toogood li, H. Neville, and J. F. Atkins, was'appointed to formulate a scheme for raising adequate finance to carry on 1 tho work of tho league.
