EDUCATION BOARD

YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The Wellington Ed.ic.ition Board meS yesterday. Present: The Hon. J. G. W, •Aitkeu (chairman) and Messrs. W. 11, Field, M.P., A. Vf. Hogg, T. Forsvth, G. T. London, E. P. Rishworth, and ,E. 11. Penny. The Finance Committee reported than the following grants for 'additions to schools had been authorised:—Hutt DisSchool, <£567; Eastern Hult School, X-SO4; Pl'unmerton School. .£s!)'. _ A letter was read from the Maramii School Committee asking that the nanus of the school shouli be changed to "Lyall Bay School." The board decided to approve" of the change. It was decided to apply to the Education Department for grants for additional accommodation at Martinborough. and Solway. The board agreed to support the Nelson Education ,Board in making representations to the Department for an increase of capitation grants. The Nelson Board pointed'out that the grauts were still made on the pre-war basis and were not' sufficient under the changed conditions, owing to rising prices. Representations were received from the Eastern Hutt School Committee to tho effect that the one room already authorised would not be sufficient for the requirements of the district. Enough children to fill the room were already available. The matter was referred to a committee for consideration. The board dealt with other matters before rising. «
