A 6light shock of earthquake yas experienced in Masterton at 2.48 on Monday afternoon. A reservist who has been evading duty under an assumed' namo was arrested at, Masterton on Monday. A deserter was arrested at Carterton on the same <lay. A. farm in the "vicinity of the Waiiigawa Bridge is reported to be under offer to the Government, for settlement by returned soldiers. ' At the weekly meeting of the Claims Board of tho Wairarapa Patriotic Association, temporary assistance was granted to three returned soldiers, and three clothing grants of Xi 10s. each wero made. x Tho following payments wero made by the Wairarapa Patriotic Association during the month of Jluy :—lnsurance premiums, .£27 10s.; grant to soldiers, Ml 9s. 3d.; grants to dependants, ,£4O; loans to soldiers, .6210. The Waingawa Freezing Works aTe now killing on ouly one or two days 11 week.
