DISPOSAL OF WAR TROPHIES

At tho City Council meeting to-night ft letter was read from General Robin, Commandant of tho Forces, anuouiicinft that cerlain trophies of war had been allotted to Christchurch. Tho i trophies had been captured by the Ist Canterbury Regiment and tho 3rd Battalion of the Kille Brigade. Councillor D. G. Sullivan (Labour member) said lie did not think it was tho desire of tho council or tho peoplo of tuis city, or tho people of New Zealand, to take any steps to perpetuate the spirit of militarism as an outcome of tho war. If the trophies should go anywhere, let them go to the Museum. The aim of , tile Allies was to put an end to militarism in all its forms, and he claimed that, by putting, these trophies in _a. public place, they would not assist this, 110 moved that the Commandant of tho Forces ! be written to, thanking him for the offer, and that it be suggested to him that tho proper placo for those things is the Canterbury Museum. Councillor Flesher moved, \as an amendment, that the offer of tho Commandant bo accepted by tho'council, and tho Reserves Committee be instructed to find a convenient place for them. After a brief discussion, tho Mayor said that no good purpose would bo served by prolonging tho discussion, and he put tho amendment, which was carried by 12 votes to 5, the minority being Labour members.
