Heavy rain has fallen since the Gisborno Meeting opened, and the track cannot bo otherwise than heavy for the second day. Except in tho steeplechases tho fields will be as big as on the openiiiK day. In tho Hurdles Purseflller has been raised to 13st. 21b., -which should effectively stop her, for both Con and Kauri Kinu will be bottnr for the race they had on tho first dey. This applies particularly to the Ancklander. In tho May Hurdles, at Wanganui he ran PuvsefiHer close at a difference of a Btone and eight pounde, and now theroie nearly 3st. botwe«n them. Tho race can be dopnnded upon to improve him as ho has not done much prior to tho mooting. In the Maiden Handicap the Aueklander, General Stephens, will bo maltinc his third appearance. Ho is only a three-year-old and is a pony, so that it may confidently bo expected that he will not come up fresh to-day. A very likely one is Multiplane, who finished fourth on Thursday. Ho and Newlant may bo most fancied. Tbo latter is a fresh home, and tho supporters of tho stoble of J. Lambese will go for tho chestnut.

Another northerner in Hyllus may bo the favourite- selection in the Waikauae Handicap. His owner regards him as unbeatable, but Multive will not lack supporters, as ho won well on Thursday.

Master Tirai will have Sandy Paul only to contend with in tho To Hapara Steeples, as Fagot is to bo reserved for the twomilo steeplechnee. M'Seveney Is to rido Master Timi to-d*y.

Actifid won very easily on the ooening day. Many may find it difficult "to go. past 11. Kobinson's mount to-day. She and Brunswick may bo the best backed in the aix-furloDg Hack Bace.

As Expedition is sure.to bo nore after his fall, it will bo no surpriso to find Advancer again accounting for him in tho Turanganui Steeples, two miles. Pagot is up in ynare now, and has only got a jumper's chance.

The Farewell Handicap has drawn tho best field of the day. Gazicjuo has now got a good horse's weight, and 521b. is a lot of weight to Bivo a smart filly like Colonnade. Multifual is expected to do a lot better than ho did on Thursday, when he finished third.

Cardrona is .having a- few weeks' • spell at Ellerslie, but he will soon bo taken in hand again, in view of a trip to Kiccarton for the Grand National Mcelinc.

Starengo vrae severely kicked at tho recent Wanganui meeting, but is now in easy work again.

Magdala, winner of the Winter Cup of 1912. is reported to have broken down very h.T/lly. He is ton years oid, and was being trained for hurdle racing.

Sir Georpe Clifford hae sold the F/iigliehbred stallion, San Francisco, and he will shortly be shipped to the Chatham Islands. San Francisco in a brother to tho great' English racehorse and sire, St. Frusquin, by St. Simon—lsabel. Ho was imported to Now Zealand in 1901 b,y Mesers. L. D. and N. A. Nathan, of Auckland, and durin? his short career at thp Sylvia Park Etud ho sired some good winners, including Los Angelos. Elevation, and Grucinella. At the end of 1903 he was sold for 1500 guineas, and went to New South Wales, but ho was not a great stud success thore. though, his progeny included Cisco, winner of tho Australian Jockey' Club's Derby and other good races. lie returned to New Zealand about eight years ago, and while at Sir Gcorsc Clifford's Stonyhurst Stud he sired a few smart performers, including. First Flight, Flying Start, and Gamecock, but at no time did ho have many representatives.

Slogan was given a trial over the fi-.nces at Riccarton thn other morning, and for 3. novice showed great promise, jumping very well. He may be given a race over the sticks at the Timaru meeting next month.
