NEW MILITARY WARD

. IN WELLINGTON HOSPITAL GROUNDS. As already stated in these columns, Colonel (Dr.) Valintine, as Director of Military Hospitals, had intimated to the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid llenrd tho desire of the Defence Department for tho board to undertake to provide accommodation for at least another 60 military patients, and iutimnted that lie would be pleased to meet the board in conference yesterday afternoon. The conference, which was. attended by sixteen members of the board, was , informed in plain terms by Colonel Valintino that as the number of cot cases returning to New Zealand was increating, more accommodation would have to be provided at' tho Wellington Hospital, and (.he proposal was that tho situation should be met by erecting another building altogether within the Hospital grounds. In the course of the discussion the question of extending- the Victoria Hospital (now used as a military hospital) w.is raised, but it was explained tlrat the Victoria Hospital for Chronic Invalids could scarcely be interfered with as it was raised by voluntary subscription for the accommodation of chronic invalids. ■ . .

The board, after considering the proposal, passed tlie following resolution unanimously: "That the Wellington Hospital Board will give every facility to the Government in its proposal, to erect a building in its grounds for the accommodation of military patients and nursing staff required by Dr. Valintine, Director of. Military Hospitals, and that the cost of such building, with its equipment, bo defrayed by the Government." ,

This resolutb'i was forwarded to Colonel Valintine' last evening. The site will- probably be Hint of what is known ns "the tin shed" in front; of the Victoria Hospital—an admirable site on a sunny slope and in close contiguity to the other hospital buildings.
