FATALITY AT A RAILWAY CROSSING

TRAIN CRASHES INTO A MOTOR.LORRY. By Telegraph.— Preca- Association. Feilding, June 13. A shocking fatal accident occurred at 8 o'clock to-day at the Kimbolton Road railway crossing, by which Georue Hirst lost his life. Hirst and Ross (botb returned soldiers) own a big motor lorry, and they were on the lorry at the crossing when a! goods train was. shunting on one of the double lines. Tho motorists waited till the train' passed, and then drove up to tho crossing. The New Plymouth express was coming in at the time and struck the forepart of the lorry and the hooded-in seat. Ross ■was driving, and jumped out just in time, but was struck and seriously injured. The -hondpd-in part was caught by the pngine, with Hirst in the wreckage. The latter was carried about three chains on the cowcatcher. He was feerfully injured.. and died within a few minutes. This railway crossing has been the subject of correspondence between the lonal authorities for years. It has always been. considered a dangerous crossing, anci this is the second man killed there. Feilding is suffering a distressing list of motor accidents, and including Ross there are now four residents under medical care as the result of motor accidents within the past week.
