Committee a vote of sympathy was passed with tho relatives of the following soldiers: Gunner Carson (Palmerston), Private R. C. Hill (Bunnytliorno , Lieutenant R. Fowler (Palmerstra, bled in action; Private A. K F. l'urlong (Linton), died of wounds; Lieutonant R. H. Buchanan, missing; Corporal 1. a. Freeth (l'almerston), and Private 1. W. Honore (Tiritea), wounded; also with any others who may have lost relatives and been overlooked. A voto of sympathy was also passed with Mr. W. Hayward, who is at present indisposed.

Lieutenant A. Hall (killed in action in Palestine) was tho enly son of Mr. \V. H Hall, lato of Drury, Auckland. He was born at Governor's Bay, Canterburv and was educated at tho Thames Public School aud Hinh School. Having obtained liis Junior Civil Service certihoate he entered tho Post and lolcgraph Department, and whilo there passed the Senior Civil Service, examination. Later Mr Hall transferred to the Defence Department, and was chosen as private secretary to the Hon. F. M. R Fisher, then Minister of Marine. Immediately- upon tho outbreak of war Mr. Hall, who was then in his 23rd year, volunteered for service abroad with the Main Body in the Wellington Monntsd Rifles. He was one of tho first ■lauding party of Jjiow Zealanders at Gallipoli, and afterwards served through the whole campaign there as sergeant. His division being urgently in need of signallers, he threw up hia 'non-commissioned rani" ami joined the signallers as a- private. Subscquently lie gained the Tank of lieutenant, was mentioned several limes in dispatches, and was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry on the field.

An unusual fitory of a sixteen-year-old lad's war service was told to tho Military Service Board at Auckland on Tuesday, when Private Josepn Clark, of Grafton Rimd, aslced for leave until he became of mililnrv age. Ho would not reach his twentieth birthday until October of next year. Ho had enlisted at the age of sixteen, leaving with the Fourteenth Reinforcements, and had seen thirteen months service in Fiance. His father and uncle Ifnd also been on active service, and u-liilo his father was in hospital In England thi> son had gone across on furlough. The authorities had then been informed that hn was under nge, and ho hud subsequently Ijeon sent back to New Zealand on duty. The, father mid undo had also returned, and been discharged as unfit for further service. The mother was Buffering from heart trouble, and the application was being made on her account, and because appellant wanted an opportunity to learn to earn hi* living. When lie had enlisted lift had just started -work us an office boy. Even if ho .wero sent back lo England, naid appellant, ho would not be sent back lo the front until ho wns twenty jeurs or , age. The board decided to grant leayo until appellant's nineteenth birthday, in October, when tho application might ho renewed.

Deceased was a brother of Messrs. D. anu A. Campbell, boot importers, of Vulcan Lane. Auckland, and was born in Auckland, being 26 years of age. He haa been away ■ about twelve months on a holiday trip, and chanced to be in Lon- • don when war broke out. He at once became one of the first 100,000, as he enlisted on the day after war was declared by Great Britain . Deceased w.as first attached to the Dragoons, Mji shortly afterwards was transferred to the 7th Royal Fuisiliers.
