SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY
A very big audience of men met Mr. I R-. Darroch at the Sailors' Friend Society on Tuesday', wh6n he delivered his popular lecture on "The Navy." The men punctuated the lecturer's remarks with cheers, and showed great appreciation of the views which were ably exhibited by Mr. Milne. The lecture was under the auspices of the Navy League, a society that was anxious, the lecturer said, to help the Sailors' Friend Society. The proceedings wore enhanced by Mesdnmes Good, W..Gate, and P. Morgan, the Misses Trim and Gawler, and Messrs. W. Cato and Chappie, who sang and played. Mr. .Moore, miasioner, who presided, put np the famous Mission jug, which sold for nearly <£3, iu aid of Miss Weston's work among the mine-sweepers. Mr. H, V. Munro, of the Harbour Board, moved a vote of thanks, and said lie feared amid the glamour of war the merchant man had been forgotten. He hoped this would be remedied, and that soon. Ater the vote hnd been carried by stirriug cheers, "God Save the King" closed a striking evening.
