1 The. Literary and Debating Society of the Y.M.C.A. hold their weekly meeting on Monday, when the- subject, ''or discussion was: "Will a league of nations (as suggested by President Wilson) after tiio war tend to ensure permanent peace?" ■ Mr. Guighloy, M.A., occupied tlio cliaii'. Messrs. Linyard and Morrison spoke on behalf of (lie affirmative, and Messrs, Webber Mini Clarke took the negative side, and, while realising Ih i> good intentions of the well-wishers of the scheme, endeavoured to point out seeming weaknesses--. The discus-ion was continued by Messrs. Buivher, Black, Stephonson, Cpl. Jones, (a visiting soldier), and others. The summing up by the. chairman concluded a μ-ofmblo evening.
