FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE BOARD
—1 ME. MITCHELL RESIGNS AND 18 REAPPOINTED. A few days ago tho executive of thn Second Division. League- declared that it would withdraw from representation on tlie Financial Assistance Board. Actually tho league never had power to appoint a representative, but the Government, as a concession, appointed Mr. A. S. Mitchell on the league's recommendation. Tho "withdrawal" from representation by tho league could, therefore, mean no moro than that tho executive refused to recognise Mr. Mitchell as a league representative. When this declaration was mado Mr. Mitchell resigned, but ho left himself eligible for reappointment as a private citizen and as a reservist of the Second Division. The Government has now reappointed him to the board. Mr. Mitchell has freely expressed tho opinion nmong his friends that tho administration of financial assistance is equitable, even generous. His latest action may bo taken to indicate that he is quite satisfied with what he has seen of the work of tho board.
