STRETCHING TOWARDS AUCKLAND. It was. hoped by the directors, Mcsdames Poarce and Wilford, that an announcement could be made this morning as to-how far the copper trail has proceeded on. its journey towards Auckland. But the directors wished at the sumo time to state what progress had been made by Auckland's bail, which in coming towards Wellington, and-this information could not bo secured last night owing to an interruption if the wires. It is necessity, therefore, to postpone the anjiounoament until communications have been exchanged with Auckland. The directors arcs able to state that at the kiosk during Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 21,269 pennies irere received. This number represents about 709 yards of the trail, , Among other moneys that have bean received ■ are the following sums:—Pennies from schools, £U 15s. 3d.; Mrs. A. K S. MT&mzie, .£10; Mrs. Hope Lovris, £5 55.; Mr. J. M'Lcan, £5; Mr. C. Smith, Mr. C. Pearce, .£5; Mrs. Scobie Maekeuzie, .So; Mr. Barraud, £b\ Mr. F. P. Nelson, £5; Mr. Segrief, £1 Is. It is expected that the length of the two trail/; will be announced to-morrow morning- ' ■ ■
