The sign of "Ye Penny" Las been especially designed and painted by tho Wellington artist, Mr. W. A. Bowrini;, and now hangs out boldly in the fashion of one of those artistic sijns formerly such a graceful and distinctive feature of the old inns of England. Up till Tuesday evening 4142 pennies had been subscribed, 60 that (with other donations) Wellington, cannot bo far off a woll-known Tailway station. An arrangement has been come to with Auckland to declare correct distances covered with copper 3 every so that the public will be advised of the progress of tho competition. The local committee is full of confidence so far. Mrs. Wilford visited Pefone yesterday in connection with plans for picking up the copper trail in the subnrban nrea. After a meeting with the Bailwny Workshops staff, about 300 being present, it was" decided that the Workshops Patriotic Committee should take the matter •up and do its best for the trail. Mrs. Wilford will meet tho Gem- Meat employees at noon to-day, and at 3 p.m. will address a general meeting of all sympathisers in St. Augustino's Schoolroom.
