Robinson (transfer). : Wholesale licenses■A. Y. Lees. . _, , ' In the matter of the' Empire- Hotel, Mrs Palmer was permitted to carry on the house in the absence of Mr. Palmer at the front. • . The application of W. F.-Flynn, of tho Victoria Hotel, was objected to by the police, who said that since tievr report on the conduct of the hotels in the 'dis; trict had been mado certain charges nau been preferred against the proposed licensee. The charges would be heard on Juno 20, and the snggestion wns made to tho committee that the hearing of the application might be adjourned till after the proceedings. Mr. P. Young (counsel for the applicant): That is a most unusual application ! , r Tho chairman: What is tho naturo or the chargeP • . , Mr. Young said that the charge had to do with serving a soldier with liquor, ho thought. However, the proposed licensee- was not the only party to bo considered; there wae tho owner. .- . Tho police representative: There are four charges. - .. ' Mr; Young: AH arising out of the one Incident.

The chairman (after a consultation): •Tho committee thinks that this is a case which .affects to some extent the suitability of the candidate, and the adjournment asked for by tihe police will be made. The adjournment will be to 'June'2o.
