ECHO OF A CONSPIRACY TRIAL
WING-COMMANDER PORTE CREATED C.M.G. (Rec. Juno i, 8.5 p.m.) London, Juno 3. Wing-Commander John C. Porto has been awarded a C.M.G. for his war services. It is recalled that the AttorneyGeneral, in withdrawing a charge of conspiracy against Porto last year, said that the accused was suffering so severely from haemorrhage that it would bo impossible for him to serve his country for long—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn Tin Novemberflast one William A. Casson, a retired Civil Servant, was charged with corruption, and of having conspired with Wing-Commander John C. Porte, of the Royal Flying Corps, respecting large sums of money paid to Porte, who octod as Crown Agent in connection with contracts between tho British Admiralty and tho Curtiss leroplano Company of ftew York; Casson was fined JSGOOO. Tho Judge also ordered all money illegally received as commission to be returned to tho authorities. Tho Crown withdrew proceedings against Porte, as it did not regard his action as criminal, Porto being willing to return tho money !to had recoived., It was stated at tho preliminary hearing that Porte's commission was . iC4S,OOO, and Casson s .
