THE DOUBLE INCOME TAX
STATEMENT BY MR. BONAR L'AW.

London, Juno 3. In tho House of Commons, on the Finance Bill, Mr. Page Croft moved to abolish the double income tax % Sir J. Rees said that certain Australian companies having head offices in England paid 16s. 9d. in the .£. _ Some of these companies' were considering tho question, of transferring their offices to Australia, Mr. Bonar Law (Chancellor of Exchequer) enid ho realised tho seriousness of tlio doublo incomo tat, which ought to bo amended as soon as 'possible. But the wholo burden ought not to fall on Britain. It ought to be adjusted^between Britain and tlio colonics. That was the view of the Dominion Premiers. Britain was this year imposing ,£111,000,000 of additional taxation, but ho was not asking more from tho payers .of the doublo incomo tax. lie promised that tho matter would be discussed at tho next Imperial Conference. Tho amendment was withdrawn— Aus.N.K. Cable Assn.
