A SATISFACTORY SETTLEMENT. By Telegranli-I'ress Association. Waihi, June 2. After a lengthy conference between the local branch of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers and the mining companies extending over Saturday and well into Sunday tho Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. T. Harle Giles, succeeded in effecting a settlement of the dispute, and tho men who went on strike on Tuesday last will resume work on Tuesday next. Only tho remarkable tact and diplomacy shown by tho Commissioner brought about this gratifying result, thus averting what might have been a very serious position and mo fraught • with momentous possibilities as far as Waihi is concerned, and possibly the whole Dominion. Tho terms of settlement are not being made public, but it is understood that both parties are perfectly satisfied, as various representatives on either side heartily congratulated the Commissioner on his fine achievement, which they agreed had in all probability averted serious disaster involving great loss ootli to workers and industry.
