SETTLEMENT OF SOLDIERS ON THE LAND
RECOMMENDATIONS OP CONFERENCE. By Telegraph-Press Association. Auckland, May 31. The Returned Soldiers' Conference adopted the following series of recommendations for the settlement of eoldiers on the land:—That all sections be ring-fenced, furnished with a permanent water supply, and houses and outbuildings erected where required; that in bush country the bush be felled and the blocks grassed, fenced, and roaded as far ag possible by returned soldiers, the cost to be capitalised; that returned soldiers be represented on the land boards; that land boards exercise closer supervision over eoldier settlements; thnt applicants who have a limited knowledge of fanning should work for a suitable farmer in the district in which he desires to settle for a definite period, after which he shall appear before the land board, and, if suitable, shall be eligible for future ballots, subject to a report of a committee of three farmers. ;he wages while the man is working for the farmers to be fixed by the Goverument.
