NAVY LEAGUE ACTIVITIES

CHILDREN'S FANCY DRESS BALL. A meeting of the Navy League Dance Committee was held in the league rooms yesterday morning for tho purpose of furthering the arrangements in connection with the children's fancy dress dance which is to bo held in July. Airs. Halllhompson presided. Jliss Montgomery was appointed secretary for tho dance, and Mrs. (J. K. Eichardson treasurer. A floor committee wns set up, members' of i<., being Mrs. J. Hannah and Mrs. Kichardeon, who were deputed to ask Colonel Hughes, Mr. Foster, and Mr. It. Darroch to become members and co-op-crate in carrying out the arrangements in connection with the floor. Mrs. Buston and Miss Montgomery are to arrange for door-keepers. A:i additional attraction to the dance will be the performance of some fancy dances by some wellknown child performers, and Mrs. Jame3 Hannah was appointed to tarry out the arrangements in connection with that part of tho programme. Mrs. Hannah was also deputed to secure the jtuhes for the dresses for which prizes will°ljo given. These prizes will bo for tho prettiest, tho most original, the most effective dress inado out of tho cheapest materials, etc., and Mrs. Toogood is giving a prizo for tho beat couple. Parents' tickets for the floor will include supper, while spectators in tho gal ery, on the payment of an extra enilling, will also be enabled to obtain supper.

A raffle which is sure to arouse a creat deal of interost is that which Miss Joseph iHobson! Street) is ondticting for the benefit of the Hobson Street Day at ihe Wellington Red Cross Shop. There are four prizes offered, the first two being afternoon tea-cloths of linen and crochet, tho third a duchessc set, also of linen and croehel. and the fourth a sideboard runner. They are all esnuisitek made, and lovers of dainty things are likely to compete eagerly for the chance of Mcurin<r any one of these prizes. Tho rafflo will be drawn in September. Stewart Dawson and Co., Ltd., and tho proceeds of which go to tho Bed Cross funds, are selling well, and much interest is displayed in their disposal. Thu lirst prize, that of an oak cabinet valued at J-G5, makes a strong appeal to overy woman, as indeed do all the other prizes, viz., a diamond and ruby ring, an E.P. jiicklo stand, a silver wristlet watch, a threetier cuke stand, an E.P. instaml, a china fruit dish, a cut-glass claret jug, an E.P. tsblo gong, an E.P. card tray, a potpourri vase, and an E.P. siveet dish. The rafflo is to be drawn oiv August 1, and tickets, ono shilling each, may bo obtained from Mrs. Adams, i)G The Terrace, or from Messrs. Stewart Dawson and Co., Liimbton Quay, on receipt of a stamped addressed envelope with amount enclosed.

Next week will be the last in which tickets for the natural musquash coat which is being raffled in connection with tha Terraces Day may bo obtained, as next Friday the raffle will be drawn at three o'clock in tho afternoon by four Government officials under the supervision of the police. The coat is a very one. full length, satin , lined, and beautifully finished in every detail. Next Friday is the Terraces Day at tho Wellington Bed Cross Shop, and as thosi workers are so well known for the e.voellcnca of their arrangements a very good day is anticipated. Thero will he a largo supply of delicious, homc-niade cakes for sale, second-hand books, sweels made by well-known makers (and sold at moderate prices'), groceries, cigarettes, and various other good tilings. Miss Cooper and Miss Moss will have their usual sale of flowers, and a matter of special interest will be the drawing of tho raffles I'or the fur coat and the dolls, basinette, and basket at 3 p.m.
