A Message from the Queen,

The workers of tlio Victoria League in Chi'istchurcli aro extremely gratified to receive from Lady Dawson the following message from Hor Majesty the Queen, addressed to Mrs. Carey-Hill, the (secretary of the local branch:—"l am desired by the Queen to convey to nil the kind people who have worked and given the nice things contained in your cases Her Majesty's grateful thanks. The Queen desires me to say how very much she appreciates your thought in working for her guild. The Queen saw all the nice things you sent, and desired mo to say lio'v grateful she is. Massey had declared tho y.W.C.A. otikiiilly opened, Mrs. Albert Kaye, of Christchurch, representative of the National 'Y.W.C.A. for Now Zealand, made a speech, in which she touched upon tho great problems that aro facing women, which will add to tho strain of life in future days, and of tlio necessity of strengthening the young women in preparation for what lies before them." Mr. Gibbons, member of the Y.M.G.A. Advisory Board, outlined tho progress that had been made so far>in acquiring the property which was so admirably suited to Ihe purposes of the Y.W.C.A., iind'the Rev. Mr. Aspland spoke for tho Ministers' . Association. Miss Birch brought rnvgnttnltiTions from 'Wellington upon this advance move. Miss Margaret Smith has been appointed matron of tho Christchurch Karitano Babies' Hospital. Miss Smith is a fullyfiualifled hospital and maternity nurse who has just finished her special Plunket training at Ivaritane, Dunedin. Miss Jean Barber, who has been spending a few weeks' holiday in Wellington, left, by the Main Trunk express for Auckland yesterday. The 'Misses Craig (Auckland) are visiting AVolliugtou. Mrs. J. A. Ilanan has returned to Miramar from a visit to Invcrcargill and ■Dunedin. While in the latter place Mrs. Ilanan visited tho Karitane Hospital and was greatly impressed with the splendid work for infant welfare which is done at tho hospital and also by tho Plunket Society in Dunedin. She was present at UlO annual meeting of the society, and wns most agreeably surprised to see tlio way in which the responsible men of the city wero co-operating with its women in the work of caring for the young lives which now mean so much to this country and to tho race.

The Misses Fowkls (Auckland) are visiting Wellington, and are staying at the Hotel Windsor.
