AMALGAMATION WITH THE CITY
0 AND SUBURBAN GRIEVANCES. The Finance Committee of the City Council reported to the council lust evening that they had been waited upon by a deputation from the Johnsonvillc Town Board, the members of which urged that consideration Ik given to the question of the amalgamation of the Johnsonvillo town district with the city. The committee stated that they would consider the matter in connection! with the proposed amalgamation of other areas with tho city, and would report on the eamo at a later date. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) said that the Eooner the suburbs were linked up with the city the better.for all concerned. The suggestion in certain quarters that the city was imposing hard conditions on some.of the suburban areas was not borno out by facts. The city had not been neglectful of the suburban areas. Ono borough was getting water, drainage, electricity, and tram service from the city, and then the Mayor of that borough stated that the city had the borough by the throat. Ho resented that statement, which was contrary to fact. Karori had taken an even more decided stand, and it had been said that the city was trying to strangle the borough. The. fact was that the city would welcome even more suburban extension than, had taken place. In/ the cemetery matter also Karori had been unreasonable. As a fact every borough was supposed to provide its own cemetery.
