It was pointed out that the stall at Auckland had been reduced from 17 to U and tho amount of work had increased. An appeal was also made for Edwin D. ■Good, examining officer at Wellington, where it was represented that tho staff had been reduced from 15 to 11. Tho oases wero • adjourned until next Fittings of tho board to enable the Public Sorvico Commissioner to l>o referred to.

An application for exionded leave was made for Murray Auty, fitter and turner, by Messrs. J. J. Niven and Co. Mr. H. TJ. Anderson, who appeared for tho appellant, showed that one brother of Aiity'a had been killed and another .was about to go into camp. Shearers and Slaughtermen. . Application was made by Mr. Grnyml3er, representing tho Shearers' Union, for Leopold Simons, shearer, of Wellington, and John Is 7 . Olds, also a shearer, to be exempted. Tho board decided to go further, into the caso of Simon before coming to any decision, and resolved to refer Iho caso of Olds to No. 1 Military fc'ervico Board. The Wellington Ileal Export Company appealed for the cxempton of Arthur W. Shannard, a married man, and a slaughterman, ou tho ground ;hat ho was essential. Tho caso was gdjeurned until August 1, Shannard to remain in his present occupation. Tho Meat Export Company also appealed for William C. Eowan, another slaughterman. Howan made a personal appeal on the ground .that ho milked cow? and wns also a professional slaughterman. He milked iivo cows, bu'; had to at slaughtering also. In answer to the military representative, appollant said he Lad been married for 12 years. He h.sd two brothers, one being over age, and tho other being called in the last ballot. Appellant himself had been classed CI.

The appeal' was dismissed, leave bciiig given until the last concentration in July.

Martin L. Wilkins, accountant, of 'Auckland, was appealed for oil behalf of the Dominion Mercantile Agency Co. It was stated that Wilkins was essential. Efforts were made to replace him, but'without avail. The company would Ik> content with two montVs' leave for liVilkins. Leave was granted until July 17. Frank Flipp, butcher, of South IvUViirnio, for whom Mr. G. Watson appeared, appealed on the ground of undue hardship. He was a married man with one child. Appellant also applied for financial assistance. Ho had three moil jn his employ, two of whom had been called up. One was passed Class A ana another Ci. On different occasions lie had remitted money to his wife. The easo was adjourned for further inquiry. Difficulties of Farmers. Tho caso of James Charles AVillianison, working farm manager, Peilding, lor .whom Mr. A, K. Meek appeared, again came beforo tho board. An extension of time was asked for. Appellant's lather gave ovidence as to tho Uiflicnlty he had experienced in trying to obtain men to work on the farm. Sorno men had be.ott engaged, but had not turned up. Mr. AVillianison, senr., said liiii son was classed CI. The appeal was dismissed, leave being recommended until July J. Ilertart AV. P. Taylor, farmer, of Pahautanui, who was represented by Mr. M. P. Litckie, appealed on tho ground of undue hardship. Appellant staled that lie was part owner with his father, a man of about 70 years of age, of a farm of 210 acres. He "had 180 sheep and 2(1 head of cattlo, and looked after tho wholo placo himself. Ho had no brothers, and could got no assistance. Ho ijmself was married and had a child. To the military representative; Iljs father could not work on tho I'iuni, >m ho suffered from rheumatism. He had to pay his father .t"il per year as his share of the proceeds of the properly. His father had. not resido;! on the farm for 15 years. The case was adjourned for further inquiry. Railway Apprenticss. AValter A. Scott, railway apprentice, applied for an extension of time to finish his apprenticeship. Ho was the only son of a widowed mother, whom he had lo support. Tiio case was adjourned until October. Augustus H. Neicli, railway apprentice, made a similar appeal, and the caso was adjourned until October also. Good Family Record. Cecil H. Clinkard, Civil Servant, Lyall Bay, for whom Mr. Hale appeared, appealed for family reasons. His mother wrote to the board staling that four of her sons had gone to the front, and one had bcci wounded and probably injured for life. Two wero in hospital in England, and the other had been in hospital for seven months suffering from shell-shock.

The chairman said the family record was a very good one, and the case was adjourned until tho August sittings. Other Appeals. Harold J. 'J'. Pollock, commercial traveler, Wellington, again appeared before the board. Mr. Luckie represented the appellant, and stated that he desired exemption for family reasons. His mother was in a very serious date of health. Tho case was dismissed, leave being recommended until July .'l. Daniel Campbell, rarrier, ol Island Bay, for whom Mr. Jl. Myers appeared, asked for exemption on llio grounds of hardship and business reasons. Appellant said ho had one brother in France, another in camp, ami another was out of camp on tick leave. His father was an invalid, and was bed three or four days a week, nis firm did two-thirds of tlw wool-tarrying trade in Wellington,'and also had a contract with tho New Zealand Hallways Department. If any of his brothers could be released, oi were discharged from thr- military forces, ho was (juile prepared lo go to iho front himself. There was no one elso capable of managing the business at the present time. Ho was classed CJ.

The case was adjourned until the first sitting of the board in Serteinber. H. AVest, rni'way employee, Newtown, appealed for domestic reasons, lie said lie was a marrisd man with one child, and his wife was 11!. May, motor salesman, Tawa Flat, was granted leave uitil June in. Clarry A. White, fruit expert, Wellington, was recommended for leave until Jult 3. Meesr3. Littlejohn and f-'on, jewellers, applied that John C. 'Francis, jeweller should te Riven a fortnight's leave from camp, as ho was required for work in connection with the manufacture of surveying instruments. The board decided to recommend tho request. The board granted leave .until the September sittings in tho case of Richard W. Olsen, cooper, of Lower Hutt, for whom Mr. T. Peacock appeared. Charles A. Barnfather, D Coy., Thirtyseventh Reinforcements, applied for leave, and the ease was adjourned for three months. John Denis Shanahan contended that he was not a resernst, and should not bo in CI Camp. Tho appeal was dismissed, the board deciding that it had no jurisdiction. The board then adjourned until ■>() g.ro. to-day.
