BIG PRICES FOR SHORTHORNS
Some 359 Shorthorns were sold at Penrith recently for an average, of MVo 17s. 2d., or an aggregate of £il,s;tt 13s. (says the "Live Stock Journal"). The."jump" made by tho breed in 'he matter of prices is proved by contrast with last year's figures at tho corresponding sale. "Then some 319 head averaged ,SU ss. 3d., or gave but a full total of 12s. The climax came this vear in the class for bulls born after July 1, 1915, and reserved at not more than 'JOO guineas. Therein the -hampion realised 3700 guineas to Mr. A. J. Marshall. Stranraer; tho second ..nd reserve champion fetched 1800 guineas to Mr. Eaoul Casares, and other prices made by "placed" bulls vero 1600 guineas, 700 guineas (twice), 500 guineas, and 300 guineas. The bull which made the Penrith sale record price, and at the same time defeated tho recent Scots record figures—i.e., 3200 guineas at Aberdeen and 3100 guineas at Perth—was Mr. J. Bobinson's (Town End Furm, Skelton, Penrith) Everlasting, a roan calved April 13, WIG, and bred by Mr. Alexander (Jrombie, AVoodend, New Machar, Aberdeenshire. His sire was Collynie Sweep-, etake and his dam Butterfly' Queen 6tU, by Good Hope.
