The Defence authorities have under consideration at present a proposal to abolish the emblems of rank from tho sleeves of officers' tunics, and an order on tho subject is to be issued shortly. Rank will be issued by shoulder badges. The purpose of this chanrre is to prevent the officer lieing made, conspicuous in tho field by the sleeve-markings, which experience has proved can be detected at a considerable distance.
