HOTEL LICENSES QUASHED

An important decision was given by Mr. Justice Cooper in tho case in which the police moved to have the license of Edward Swanu, Hikurangi Hotel, and tho licenso of William Edwin M'Cutcbeon, Poroti Hotel, quashed, mainly on the ground that the licenses were removed outside of the limits provided by tho Act. The question was whether the respective committees had jurisdiction to sjrnnt publican's license to Swiinn and M'Ciiteiieon. His Honour ruled they had not, and ordered tho issue of a writ to quash both licenses,
