SWIMMING CARNIVAL
FAREWELL TO MR. F. ROSS. A swimming carnival was held last evening at the public tepid baths, Boys' Institute, Tiisman Street, as a farewell to Mr. l< 1 . Ross, the director of the institute; who goes into camp to-day. There was a very large crowd present, mostly members of tho instituto and their friends. The members of the Royal Lifesaving Society (Wellington branch), in conjunction with tho Wellington Swimming Centre, had control of tho carnival, and the events were got oil' to time. Surgeon-Goneral It. F. S. Henderson (Di-rector-General of Medical Services) presided, and in a briet speech referred in flattering terms to the activities of tho instituto, and declared the carnival open. Ladies belonging to tho auxiliary had sweets staljs and,a tea-room, and did a thriving business. Tho results were as follow:— GO 2-3 yds.
