POSITION OF THE CAMP TEAMS MEETING OF THE UNION, 'The Management Committee of the Wellington fiugby Union mot last evening. There were present:—Messrs. D. 1J- Weir (chuinnau), J. Lundon, W. AV. Cook, A. Curtayne, A. Griffiths, ii. Howe, A. <J. Kitto, \V. Donovan, E. 11. Wara, AV. Hornig, and J. AV. Alillard. .1.1. was stated that on several occasions games had not "been started to time owing to players having failed to he at. the grounds punctually. It was decided to ask the club committees to make efl'orts to get their men to be punctual. Tho Wairarapa Union wrote asking what steps had been taken in regard to the war tax on gate receipts. The mat. ter wan held over for a week. A player, who in 1917 was disqualified for iivo years, asked for the matter to be reopened on the ground that tne seutenc-e was harsh. The letter was "received." Tho Wellington Club asked that its match with SelVyn (set down for last Saturday) should be played later in the season. Tho request was granted. The Bsiliampore Club asked for a bye for its third grade club for nest Saturday, as five members had to attend Territorial parade. The matter was left to the secretary to arrange A.s nine players had - to attend Territorial parade, a postponement by the Wellington fifth grade team's match was asked for. The secretary is to arrange the matter if possible. ' The Berhnmpore Club complained that Athletic had played a boy in a fifth grade match who was over the allowed, age. It was decided that further information was necessary.
The Selwyn'Club wrote .that there was dissatisfaction where referees vrho were members of clubs were appointed to matches in which those teams were enpp.ijed. It was decided to hand the lefter on to tho Appointment Board. Sergeant-Instructor Brooks, secretary of the Trentnani Rugby Club, waited on the committee with a request that the camp teams should be admitted to the senior competitions. Hβ explained that this would be of much more value to the soldier-players than the present arrangement.i Mr. A. Griffiths moved that the soldiers should bo admitted to the competion. He said that the union could arrange tlat Wellington College would not meet the camp team, which might be too heavy for the college fifteen. Mr. A. Curtayne moved as an amendment that the chairman and the. secretary should get into touch with the military authorities and ascertain if it is possible to run a soldiers' competition. The amendment was carried.
