LYNCH LAW IN STREETS

A Fiag Day was carried out in the city yeslorduy by a sub-conuniUi'o of the Red Jersey Appeal, and as a result ji substantial sum was added to the steadily mounting total of tiio funds. From about 9 o'clock in the morning until after (i in the evening collectors were out in the streets, while stalls wero set up in various bur>y places. Many cf these wore Baby Competition stalls, half the proceeds of which aro dovotcd to the Red Jersey funds, 'l'he most striking of these was that which was working for the Maori Baby. In addition to the svall, a lorry conveyed a party of Maori singers through the streets, and the results were quite satisfactory to the Maori Bo by s chances. Another very successful stall, and a purely Red Jersey 0110, was the Kilbiriue ladies' staii, at Courlenay I'luce, picsided over by Mrs. J. J. Clarko. l.xoellont business was done. The Patriotic Shop in Willis Stjcet, whore the Wadcstown Indies wero in charge, achieved a record, tlio sales exceeding any previous <lay's sales. Ihe most successful collector .for the day was Cadet Sutherland, of the Salvation Army, who gathered in over .£lO. Tho special attractions of the day included a Ku-Klux Kourt, established on a two-horso witgon. Shortly alter noon this court opened at the General I ost Office, with a ftirring outburst of music from tho Trentham Military Hand. A start was mado immediately by tho court officers—dressed in red and bluo tootbail jerseys, trouaei'3 and belts, and leubauded caps—to arrest all thoso who wero not wearing Hags. Tho first man resisted the police and escaped. 'Iho next was moi» amennblo to tho throats convoyed by the heavy mallots carried bv tho court oßicers, and was biued before tho grave, bewigged judgo, and duly lined. A largo sum' of money was collected through their efforts. Tho captured Geranan gun, manned by ; artillerymen, and heralded by the Trenthani Band, attracted much attention.. The committee has expressed its appreciation of tho action of the Camp and Headquarters authorities in permitting tho band to bo present and m helping by providing a gun team,, and also thanks the individual soldiers who assisted.
