Amsterdam, May 16. . ilerr Maximilian Harden, in the weekly journal "Die Zukunft," argues that the vital interests of Austria and Germany are divergent, and v declares that tho Miifdlo Europe idea is "a brilliantlyorganised folly." Austria wants meat and raw materials, and money to purchase theni. Victorious battlefields will not yield money. She also needs freedom to make agreements with Powers which are Germany's enemies and not Austria's. Sho needs America's friendship most of all, and longs for peace with America. Tho "Vorwaerts" declares .that the Austro-German Alliance will • continue only if it is based on the willing consent of the peoples. Tliero is littlo sign of this consent in Austria, where Germany is unpopular owing to tho PanGerman propaganda—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn.
