IN PALESTINE AND MESOPOTAMIA. (Rec. May 12, 5.5 p.m.) London, May 10. A "High Military Authority" states: "Bad weather began 21 hours beforo we entered Kirknk and preveuted «e capturing more Turks. Our transport operations were fraught with considerable difficulties. The operations havo had a good effect on Persian border tribes-, many of whom are no r co-operating with us. "General Allenby'a decision to retire to the original brideghead east of the Jordan was not initiicncea by the losa of nine guns, but was entirely duo to tho fact that his operations had been delayed at Mort, when success depended on tho rapidity of the- operations, arid ho could not obtain tho results at which ho aimed."—Aus.-N.Z.
