Tho engineer at onco telephoned to tho Otira works, stating the exact time at which the shots were heard, and tho number of shots, and it was proved that the noise hoard was, Oβ they had supposed, the firing of charges on the Otira faco. In point of fact the two ends of the tunnel woro at that timo within eleven and ft half ohaine of each other.
