! For somo time past tho congregation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church ha« becu entertaining soldiers and strangers at a social supper /.fter the Sunday evening service. Last Sunday ovoning tho guests included a number of visitors, and an invitation was promptly extended to them and their companions to spend a social ovoning in St. Andrew's Hall, with tho result that last night tho hall, which had been tastefully decorated for the occasion, was filled with the soldiers and their friends. A. programme of musical items and recitations was gono through, the visitors' contributions giving special pleasure to their hosts and hostesses, who intermingled with thoir guests in friendly intercourse throughout the evening. At tho close of three pleasant hours, Sergeant Blight returned thanks on behalf of tho visitors and fpoko appreciatively of the hospitality they had received. The Rev. S. Robertson Orr replied, and after hearty cheers on both sides the gathering closed with the National Anthem. During tho evening a presentation of hooks of New Zealand views was made, on behalf of a gentleman from Canterbury, to a number of veterans who were amongst tho visitors.
